Perched on a hill, Chanderi Fort offers breathtaking views of the surrounding town and countryside. Dating back to the Gurjara-Pratihara dynasty, it later became a strategic Mughal stronghold. The fort's walls, ancient gateways, and historical significance make it a must-visit site for history and architecture enthusiasts.
Built by Sultan Mahmud Khilji in the 15th century, Koshak Mahal is a grand structure reflecting Afghan-style architecture. Originally intended to be a seven-story palace, only four stories were completed. The palace’s vast arches and symmetrical design make it a fascinating historical monument, attracting architecture lovers and historians.
One of the largest mosques in Madhya Pradesh, Jama Masjid of Chanderi was built in 1251 AD. Its three grand domes, intricate carvings, and spacious courtyards exemplify Indo-Islamic architecture. Carved out of a single rock in 1495 AD, Kati Ghati Gateway is an engineering wonder. It was created overnight on the orders of a ruler to welcome the Sultan of Malwa. The gateway’s massive size and unique history, coupled with scenic views, make it a popular tourist spot.
Maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India, Chanderi Museum houses rare sculptures, inscriptions, and artifacts from different historical periods.
